Daniil Medvedev is facing more fines from the Australian Open after failing to attend his post-match press conference after the defeat to American teenager Learner Tien.
The fifth seed was upset 6-3 7-6(4) 6-7(8) 1-6 7-6(7) in a four hour, 49 minute match that finished around 3am on Margaret Court Arena.
After the match, Medvedev chose to skip his interviews with the media in a move sure to attract attention and possibly a fine from Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley.

In his opening match, Medvedev smashed a net camera and broke his racquet in frustration. During his second-round match against Tien, he escalated his on-court antics by pretending to hit the ball at a match referee, earning a point penalty from the chair umpire.
He also threw his racquet around Margaret Court Arena and smashed the ball against the wall on multiple occasions, further showcasing his frustration.
At the Australian Open, fines for such behavior are severe. Racquet abuse carries a penalty of up to $50,000, while unsportsmanlike conduct, such as threatening gestures, can result in fines of up to $150,000. Skipping media obligations also incurs financial penalties, leaving Medvedev potentially facing fines exceeding $200,000.
Tournament director Craig Tiley and the Australian Open disciplinary committee are expected to determine the appropriate sanctions in the coming days. Historically, player fines are disclosed during the second week of the tournament, and Medvedev’s multiple offenses are likely to draw significant attention.
