Mawuko Afadzinu, the first Vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee and President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association has emphasized accountability, fairness, and a balanced approach to sports development across all disciplines as Ghana awaits for the appointment of Minister of Sports.
He shared these thoughts in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports in the wake of the creation of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
Drawing inspiration from the biblical Parable of the Talents, Afadzinu outlined the need for a leader who is committed to merit and high performance.
“I will also go for someone who is committed to merit. As a people, a lot of the time, we struggle with holding ourselves accountable to the highest standards.

As Jesus taught us in the Bible through the Parable of the Talents, you should be accountable to whatever talents you are given. So, if you got one talent and we are coming back to ask you, you will say, ‘This is what I did with the talent, and I did not bury it in the ground.’ Similarly, five talents, the same thing. So it is critical that we hold everybody in a position of trust to very high standards and of performance.”
Afadzinu also stressed the need for fair allocation of resources, advocating for all sports disciplines to be given adequate attention and support, not just football. As the President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, he urged the next minister to ensure inclusivity in the distribution of resources.

“The cake must be made bigger so that football will take their big share, but all the disciplines will also get their fair share. So you need that 360-degree kind of view and someone who understands all the other disciplines, who has a solid network and a key appreciation for other role players.”
