Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has opened up about why he signed a mammoth 9-and-a-half-year contract with the club.
The Norwegian forward signed an unprecedented extension which reportedly eliminated all previous release clauses and set the player up to stay at the club past his 34th birthday.
Haaland has 17 goals in 22 games and is gunning for his 3rd straight Premier League Golden Boot in as many seasons. Despite a healthy goal return, Haaland’s form has dipped along with that of the club.
Speaking to former Arsenal striker turned pundit, Thierry Henry, Haaland explained that he was convinced of the strength of the project:
“I think in the end it was an easy decision for me speaking with the people in the club, speaking with Pep, you know he’s not going to stay forever, we all know this in football, but that’s not the case that he’s staying.”

“For me to speak to the bosses in the club and just listen how much they wanted it and how much they wanted me to be in the project and everything made me feel really good and that’s also what triggered me.”

He added that he feels happy at the club, and it made it easier to commit:
“In the end, it’s the feeling I get when I speak with them when I spoke with fans when I spoke with Khaldoon (Al Mubarak) and everyone that’s the good feeling I got and at the end that’s what I wanted”

Haaland will be hoping that Manchester City can keep up their good league form when they host out-of-form Chelsea at the Etihad on Saturday.
