Interim Management Committee Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, Nana Apinkra Awuah, has appealed to Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams to aid the club’s fight for an autonomous league and tax reduction on Ghana football clubs who use the national stadiums.
Nana Awuah made this appeal when the Sports Minister met the Kotoko IMC in the wake of Kotoko fan Francis Yaw “Pooley” Frimpong’s death after getting stabbed when violent clashes erupted during Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League game against Nsoatreman FC at Nsoatre.
After the meeting, Kofi Adams stated that it was clear Ghana football needed a reset but for Kotoko’s IMC Chairman, having the nation’s top flight division run by an autonomous body and not the GFA is of major importance to the Porcupine Warriors. (Click highlighted full text to read full story)
“We appeal to you to help us get the autonomous league we have requested for. Another important matter that affects us in a big way is the VAT-Value Added Tax- charges that we deal with. We know the entertainment industry has a flat rate charge of 3% but for us (football teams), the charge is still 17.5%.”

“When you are done playing a home game at the national stadium, other deductions that are made beyond the VAT charges take away almost 45% of the money accrued so I plead with you to help us address this issue.”
