Newly appointed Black Queens head coach, Kim Lars Björkegren, has revealed that accepting the coaching role for Ghana’s women’s national team was an easy decision.
Speaking at a press conference, he attributed his choice to the admirable qualities of Ghanaians and Ghanaian players. He replaces Nora Hauptle who left the role to coach Zambia’s National Women’s Team.
“I have been coaching hundreds of national team players, and I have met many African players. For Ghana, it has many good people and good football players-people with their hearts in the right place. So when the Ghana call came, it was an easy decision to say yes.”
The experienced coach sounded confident in his ability to lead the Black Queens, citing his extensive background in coaching and technical direction.

“I started my coaching career in Sweden, and from there, I had some successes over the years. I have also worked in Asia and coached in China for a while, was a technical director in the Philippines, won titles in Cyprus, and worked in the US-one of the best women’s leagues in the world,”

Björkegren’s appointment marks a new chapter for the Black Queens, and he will be looking to lead the Black Queens to the 2025 Women’s AFCON later this year.
