The Marketing Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Jamil Maraby, has admitted that negative incidents surrounding the Ghana Premier League have made it difficult to attract sponsorship for the competition.
Currently, without a headline sponsor, the league has faced several challenges, with the most recent being the tragic stabbing of a fan during a Week 19 clash between Nsoatreman and Asante Kotoko at the Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatre.
The incident has led to the temporary suspension of the league and further complicating efforts to secure financial backing for the Ghanaian top flight division.
In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Maraby acknowledged that such incidents create a negative perception, making marketing efforts more challenging.
“At the moment we’re not approaching any new partners. Those partners that we were talking to to support the Premier League, we’re still in discussion with them, you know”

“…So yes, it’s difficult, but there’s still a potential and possibility for us to get partners to support our league again”
Since Francis Yaw “Pooley” Frimpong’s death during Kotoko’s clash with Nsoatreman, the GFA has held meetings with several stakeholders including the Ghana Police Service.
