Referee Eso Doh Morrison attacked in Elmina as Hooliganism strikes again

Hooliganism once again marred Ghana football, this time in the Division One League, as match officials were forced to flee the pitch following a heated encounter between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks on Sunday at the Ndoum Stadium.

All Blacks secured a 1-0 victory, but the chaotic scenes after referee Eso Doh Morrison’s final whistle dominated the headlines.

Players and officials of Elmina Sharks confronted and attacked the referee and other match officials over a controversial penalty decision that led to All Blacks’ winning goal.

Footage from the match shows that referee Morrison initially did not award a penalty after two players collided in Sharks’ penalty area.

However, after medical personnel attended to the players, he pointed to the spot, awarding a penalty to the away side.

This incident comes just two weeks after the tragic stabbing of Asante Kotoko fan Nana Pooley during a Ghana Premier League matchweek 19 fixture between Nsoatreman and Asante Kotoko.

Notably, this week’s Division One League fixtures marked the first enforcement of the Ghana Football Association’s newly enhanced matchday and security protocols.
