Austrian footballer of Ghanaian descent, Kevin Danso, has revealed that he initially had no interest in football and instead dreamed of becoming an action movie star.
Speaking in an interview with Ghanaian artist Black Sheriff about his upbringing and inspirations, Danso shared that as a child, he was more fascinated by martial arts films than the sport he now plays professionally.
Born in Voitsberg, Austria, to Ghanaian parents, Danso moved to England at the age of six and later joined the youth academy of MK Dons.
His talent quickly caught the eye of scouts, and he eventually signed with German club FC Augsburg, where he made his professional debut in 2017.
“To be honest, from as far back as I can remember until around the age of seven, I hated football. I wanted to have a career in acting; especially in action movies. I was into karate and things like that. Even when my dad and brother watched football, I found it so boring.”

“I preferred watching Jackie Chan, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and all those action stars but then, one day, something just clicked, and I realized, actually, I like this sport. I started off as a striker, and from the moment I began playing, I knew this was what I wanted to do. The rest, as they say, is history.”

After impressing in the Bundesliga, Danso played for RC Lens in France before securing a high-profile move to Tottenham Hotspur, where he now plays as a defender.
