Head coach of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, (the Black Stars), Otto Addo, has pointed out that there is more motivation from the team to qualify to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after failing to qualify to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This year’s AFCON is scheduled to be played in Morocco in December but Ghana missed out on qualifying to compete in the continental championship after failing to win a game in six qualification outings.
However, Ghana has three wins from four games in the World Cup qualifiers and according to Otto Addo, failing to qualify to Morocco has added an extra layer of motivation ahead of the Black Stars upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
“We have nine points, we are in a good position and everybody is very motivated; also because we didn’t do well [in the AFCON qualifiers], there seems to be even more motivation. Everybody is eager to show that we can still do it.”

Ghana takes on Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21 at 19:00 GMT.
