Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), Dauda Fuseini, has made a passionate appeal to the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to provide urgent financial support for the country’s national boxing team as they prepare for a packed calendar of international events.
Speaking during an official engagement, Fuseini emphasised the potential of Ghana’s young boxers and urged the authorities to back them with the necessary resources to compete on the global stage.
We have the boys. We have the talent. We can do it. Ghanaian boxing has always shown the way; we’ve gone out countless times and brought laurels back home. All we need now is support
He revealed that the federation is gearing up for two major tournaments in 2026: the Commonwealth Games in Scotland and the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal. According to him, these events are pivotal to Ghana’s boxing development and international standing.

Before those events, however, the federation is targeting a crucial tournament this year: the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, a globally recognized ranking event that could significantly boost Ghana’s position in international boxing.
This year, our calendar includes the World Championship in Liverpool, organized by World Boxing. It’s a platform to assess our athletes; to determine if they’re fit, capable, and ready to represent Ghana at the Commonwealth Games
It’s also a ranking tournament. We’ve missed several ranking opportunities in recent months due to financial challenges. We can’t afford to miss this one.

He stressed that participation in the Liverpool Championship is vital not only for evaluating athlete readiness but also for earning the international points needed to qualify for future tournaments, including the Olympics.
We are pleading with the NSA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation division to support us in making this happen. The Liverpool Championship will allow us to build momentum, gain rankings, and properly prepare our athletes for the 2026 calendar
The call comes at a time when Ghanaian boxing continues to thrive at the youth level, with recent successes at the African Youth Championship reaffirming the country’s pedigree in the sport.
However, consistent financial backing remains a hurdle in turning potential into sustained global dominance.
