The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) elections have been postponed following ongoing vetting exercises and administrative preparations ahead of the Elective Extraordinary Congress.

The decision was announced by the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) after the second phase of candidate vetting was conducted at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

According to the committee, aspirants contesting for Executive Board Member positions underwent vetting, while candidates from the first batch who had previously been asked to provide additional information were also given the opportunity to respond to outstanding queries.

The committee revealed that all aspirants will be allowed to submit further and better particulars before the final day of vetting, which has been scheduled for Thursday, June 4.

As a result, the Elective Extraordinary Congress, which had initially been slated for June 4, will no longer take place on that date.

In a statement, the committee cited budgetary constraints, the ongoing compilation of the delegate list, and the need for adequate time to complete vetting procedures and stakeholder consultations as reasons for the postponement.

The GBIMC indicated that a new date for the elections will be announced after the vetting process and consultations have been concluded.

The postponement means the race to elect a new leadership team for Ghana boxing remains ongoing, with candidates expected to complete the remaining stages of the process before delegates head to the polls.

Chairman of the Vetting Committee, Samir Captan, assured stakeholders that the electoral process would continue to be conducted in a transparent and fair manner, in accordance with the provisions of the GBA Constitution.

The upcoming elections are expected to play a significant role in shaping the future direction of Ghana boxing as the sport seeks administrative stability and renewed development.
