Viktor Gyökeres is reportedly “furious” and ” betrayed” with Sporting CP’s management, feeling betrayed by what he sees as a broken promise regarding his potential summer exit.
According to sources close to the Swedish striker, Gyökeres is deeply unhappy with Sporting’s SAD (Sociedade Anónima Desportiva), led by president Frederico Varandas, for allegedly backtracking on a gentlemen’s agreement made last year.
The agreement, discussed ahead of the 2024/25 season, assured Gyökeres that he would be allowed to leave Alvalade for €60 million, plus an additional €10 million in achievable objectives; far below his €100 million release clause.
After a spectacular debut season in Lisbon, the striker agreed to stay one more year with the understanding that he would have a clear path to depart this summer.

Despite that, the player has grown increasingly frustrated. Sources say that in response to inquiries from interested clubs, Sporting’s board is now demanding a fee closer to €80 million; far above the €60m+10m outline previously discussed. This shift has left Gyökeres feeling misled and betrayed.
This tension also explains his recent social media activity. Fans quickly noticed that the forward removed all references to Sporting, Sweden, and even Nike from his Instagram bio; signs of growing discontent behind the scenes.

Record has confirmed that a meeting took place at the start of the season between Frederico Varandas, then-football director Hugo Viana, Gyökeres, and his agent.
During that discussion, the club acknowledged the €100 million clause would not be enforced strictly, citing the player’s age (26 at the time) as a factor. However, no exact fee was put in writing.

As of now, no official offer has been submitted to Sporting, but the situation remains tense. Gyökeres has made it clear he wants to move on; yet for the moment, the door out of Alvalade remains locked.
