Head coach of Ghana’s Black Damsels, Joyce Boaitey-Agyei, says she isn’t surprised that Doris Boaduwaa won the Female Footballer of the Year Award at the 2025 Ghana Football Awards.

Boaduwaa, who plays for Israeli side Hapoel Jerusalem, topped the charts ahead of contenders Mercy Berko and Stella Nyamekye to win the prestigious award.

The 22 year old forward joined Hapoel after leaving Serbian side Spartak Subotica following her brilliant run in the Ghanaian league with Hasaacas Ladies.

With Hasaacas Ladies, Boaduwaa won multiple league titles and finished second in the CAF Women’s Champions League in 2020.

Having worked with her at Kumasi Girls Senior High School, Joyce Boaitey-Agyei said in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports she isn’t surprised about Boaduwaa’s crowning moment.

“I am not surprised Doris has won the Player of the Year [Award] this season because I saw her when she completed Junior High School and I took her to my school that’s Kumasi Girls Senior High School and I realized she is a great talent. She is very hardworking so I’m not surprised she has won. I am so happy for her…and I know this is just the beginning of great things to happen in her life” Boaitey-Agyei said.
