Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has called on his team to be bold in their matchup against Algeria in the quarterfinals of this year’s CAF Women’s AFCON in Morocco.
Ghana take on Algeria on Saturday, July 19 at 16:00 GMT with the winner set to take on either Morocco or Mali in the semifinals. Ghana is competing in the Women’s AFCON for the first time since 2016.
Algeria completed the group phase with a win and two draws in three outings and conceded no goal while goalkeeper Chloe N’Gazi was named in CAF’s Best XI at the conclusion of the group stage of the tournament.
Speaking in a pre-game presser, Kim Bjorkegren praised Algeria’s organization but stated that the Black Queens don’t need to be scared of the North Africans.

“I coached against him [Faridi Benstiti Algeria’s head coach] in China so I know he’s a really good coach and I’m not surprised that the Algeria team is very organized maybe the best organized team in this tournament…and it’s going to be a very difficult game for us for sure. We need to take this opportunity…we need to not be scared out there [but] instead see it in the opposite way” Bjorkegren said.
