Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club striker Kwame Opoku has confessed that he could have scored more goals and performed better last season.
The striker indicated that his general performance was affected by the passing of popular Kotoko fan Francis “Nana Pooley” Frimpong and the subsequent break in the Ghana Premier League schedule.
Opoku alluded to this in his wide ranging interview with Kotoko media ahead of Kotoko’s game against arch rivals Hearts of Oak in the President’s Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, July 6.
On his return to Kotoko after stints in Algeria and Morocco, Opoku returned to Kotoko in January and scored nine goals and added two assists in 17 Ghana Premier League appearances to close out the 2024-2025 season.

Kotoko fan Nana Pooley was stabbed during a Kotoko league game against Nsoatreman and later died from the wounds he sustained leading to a six week break in the league and Opoku singled out the issue as a flashpoint in the immediate past campaign.
“I believe I could have done better because I started very well but after the death of our late brother Pooley we stopped for a while so when we came back, I wasn’t the same Kwame… I had to regain my momentum and started doing quite well so those weren’t the numbers I wanted last season but I believe I could have done better or scored more goals” Opoku said.

Opoku scored the winning goal in Kotoko’s 2-1 win over Golden Kick to win the MTN FA Cup Final and qualify to the CAF Confederation Cup.
