Former Black Queens player and head coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo is aiming to see Ghana lift the 2024 CAF Women’s AFCON title.
In an interview with CAF, the legend spoke extensively about her time competing for Ghana at the tournament in its early years. With Ghana, Tagoe-Quarcoo competed at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1999.
As one of the pioneers of women’s football on the African continent, the head coach of Oaks FC, was impressed with the level of development in women’s football before zeroing in on Ghana’s chances of lifting a first ever African title at the senior stage.
“Women’s football has really come of age and I thank God that FIFA is really pushing hard. CAF is also pushing very hard. All the MAs (Member Associations) are also pushing very hard. Every Ghanaian wants to see Black Queens winning the Cup. I’m a Ghanaian. I want us to win the Cup. And I believe in these girls that we have assembled” she said.

Ghana needs a win over Tanzania in its final Group C tie to be in the running to qualify to the quarterfinals of this year’s championship.

The Black Queens take on Tanzania on Monday, July 14 at 19:00 GMT.
