The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah says the government and his outfit are fully committed to making the proposed construction of new stadia in Ghana’s newly created regions a reality.

This assurance follows former President John Dramani Mahama’s announcement during his “Thank You Tour” in the Western Region, where he reaffirmed the NDC government’s pledge to build modern sports infrastructure in the six newly created regions and other underserved areas.

Speaking on the matter, the NSA boss praised the leadership of President Mahama and outlined the Authority’s readiness to support the initiative.

“Modern Sports stadia are to be built for the six new regions and other regions that do not have them” – Pres. John Dramani Mahama

His Excellency the President is committed to ensuring that we have the best infrastructure in Ghana under his second tenure, and he’s already hit the ground running

We’re very inspired by his leadership. It’s one of the reasons we’re also determined to make a mark.

He emphasized that the new regions; often referred to as “orphan regions” have long felt neglected in terms of infrastructure and deserve their fair share.

These regions have called themselves the orphan regions for a reason. They believe they’ve not had a fair share of the national cake, and during the campaign, His Excellency listened to those cries

The Director General added that the NSA is not only focused on new builds but also on upgrading existing facilities across the country.

There is a plan for existing facilities; whether it’s re-engineering, expansion, or complete overhaul.

As for the new ones, we will use proven templates and management systems from larger venues to ensure they’re properly run. These regions will no longer feel left out

The six targeted regions include Western North, Oti, North East, Bono East, Savannah, and Ahafo; created in 2019 to promote decentralization and equitable development.
