Ghana Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed disappointment over his team’s decision to play long balls rather than short passes in their game against Mali at the ongoing 2024 CAF Women’s AFCON in Morocco.

In a post-game interview after Ghana drew 1-1 with Mali in its second Group C tie, Bjorkegren stated that the Black Queens are a better team when they play with the ball on the ground instead of playing long balls.

“I think in the second half, we played too many long balls and we are better when the ball is played on the ground so I prefer that; that’s the little thing I’m disappointed over” he said.

Ghana is still searching for a win in the tournament and need to beat Tanzania on Monday, July 14 at 19:00 GMT to stand a chance of progressing to the quarterfinals.

The Black Queens lost 2-0 to South Africa in the first game and rank bottom in Group C with just a point; South Africa and Mali have four points apiece in first and second place respectively while Tanzania rank third in the group.
