Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, has described the Democracy Cup as a true “concept of unity,” highlighting its role in bringing Ghanaians together through football.
The second edition of the Democracy Cup is scheduled for September 5, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium, with Accra Hearts of Oak set to face city rivals Accra Great Olympics in a highly anticipated clash.
Ahead of the game, Mr. Djietror presented the 2025 Democracy Cup trophy to the Ghana Armed Forces as part of a series of ceremonial visits leading up to the match. He noted that the competition goes beyond football, stressing its importance in national development.

We see a concept of unity of purpose, characterizing this process. Unity of purpose is so essential; for developing, for building, for achieving excellence. With this in mind, the Speaker led the process and we launched the Democracy Cup
Launched last year, the Democracy Cup is an initiative of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin who has championed the idea of using football’s popularity to promote civic education and strengthen Ghana’s democratic values.
