The Gbese Mantse of the Ga State, His Royal Majesty Dr. Nii Ayi-Bonte II, has described the Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Cup as the perfect climax to the Homowo celebrations.
Speaking after Accra Hearts of Oak’s 2-0 win over Kpando Heart of Lions on Sunday, the chief explained that the annual football fixture has become a key part of the festivities since his enstoolment.
He emphasized that Homowo is about peace and thanksgiving, symbolized by the sprinkling of Kpokpoi on the Sunday following the festival.
“First of all, I need to congratulate the organizers. Since I became chief of the Ga State, every year we celebrate Homowo, and Sunday is the thanksgiving. So we choose to mark it with a football match between clubs,”
Hearts of Oak, the club he once chaired during their golden generation, have now won the trophy twice, defeating Heart of Lions on both occasions.
