Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has been called up to Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, the Black Stars, for the fifth time.
The 33 year old late bloomer is increasingly becoming a mainstay in the Black Stars after manning the post for Ghana in recent international games and impressing.
He featured in all but Ghana’s game against Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup after putting up a string of impressive performances for former club Accra Great Olympics and in his first season with the Phobian club.
Asare ended up as the only Ghana-based player who got invited to the Black Stars latest squad call up and will battle with Joseph Anang of St. Patrick’s Athletic in the Irish Premier League and Lawrence Ati Zigi of St. Gallen in the Swiss League for the Black Stars starting spot.
