Ghana sprinter Benjamin Azamati has credited a 10 day camp for Team Ghana’s successful qualification to the 2025 World Athletics Championships Relay Finals in Tokyo, Japan.
Team Ghana dominated the second of two heats in the Men’s 4×100 Metre Relays to finish first in a time of 37.79 seconds and qualify to the finals that is scheduled for Sunday, September 21.
Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu lit the Tokyo National Stadium track to finish ahead of Netherlands and Japan while registering a new national record.
For Amoah, qualifying to the finals gets Ghana a step closer to achieving its aim of a podium finish while Azamati stated that he wasn’t surprised by Ghana’s performance. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
“I think it has to start from the relay camp. We had about 10 days of relay camp in Texas…trying to teach us how to work through the [changing] zones, pass through the zones and I think from there, that’s when the confidence grew.”

“We knew what we could do, we knew we just had to get on the stage, to be able to pass the stick around, we already have the footspeed, it was just about passing the stick around which we were able to do today. I’m not surprised, I already told the guys we were going to run 37 [seconds] and we did it today” Azamati said to Sporty FM.
