Women’s 400 Metre Hurdles world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone delivered another breathtaking display of her immense talent to win gold at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan in the 400 Metre Women’s event.
The American finished in first place in a time of 47.78 seconds while favourite and 2024 Olympic gold medal winner Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic won silver after running a time of 47.98 seconds.
Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain finished third to win bronze in a time of 48.19 seconds; McLaughlin-Levrone’s championship winning time is a championship record run in a race that had the top three athletes in the field pick up medals.
The 26 year old, who switched from the 400 Metre Hurdles, noted that having self-belief and faith in her training got her to achieve her latest feat.

“I knew there were a lot of people doubting me with making the switch from 400m hurdles to the flat 400m, but ultimately, I had faith in my training. I knew I had it in me but I still had to get the work done” she said.
