American sprinter Noah Lyles has matched the great Usain Bolt after winning his fourth consecutive gold medal at the World Athletics Championships.
This year’s World Championships that is taking place in Tokyo, Japan had Lyles win bronze in the Men’s 100 Metre event but powered to win the Men’s 200 Metre event and beat Olymic gold medalist Letsile Tebogo in the process.
Lyles finished with a time of 19.52 seconds with fellow American Kenny Bednarek finishing second in a time of 19.58 seconds and 21 year old Jamaican Bryan Levell clinched bronze in 19.64 seconds.
2024 Olympic gold medalist Letsile Tebogo finished fourth in the finals marking another disappointing mark for the Botswana icon who was disqualified from the Men’s 100 Metre Final.
After adding gold in Tokyo to his collection that includes gold medals in Budapest in 2023, Eugene in Oregon in 2022 and in 2019 in Doha to match Bolt’s record, Lyles says he can’t wait to beat the great Jamaican’s record.

“I can’t wait for 2027 to become the only man to win five 200m titles. Being patient was the most important thing. I controlled the race.”

“I knew some of the guys were going to tighten up but I just stayed relaxed and got the job done. I am proud to be able to show all my skills” Lyles said to Olympics.com
