Basketball: Grateful and blessed- A’ja Wilson after leading Las Vegas Aces to WNBA title

Las Vegas Aces have won the WNBA title for the third time in four years with the team’s latest triumph having the Aces sweep the Phoenix Mercury in the Finals Series.

The Aces beat Phoenix 97-86 in Game 4 to clinch the title; Wilson led the charge for Las Vegas by registering 31 points, four assists and nine rebounds in 36 minutes.

Wilson hit the game winning shot in Game 3 to set her side on the way to winning a third title to underline their status as the best team in the league.

By adding this season’s WNBA title, Wilson becomes the first player to win the WNBA title, Most Valuable Player Award, Defensive Player Award, Finals MVP and lead scoring title in the same season.

29 year old Wilson now has three WNBA titles, four Most Valuable Player Awards, three Defensive Player of the Year Awards on top of having two gold medal wins to her credit that firmly puts her in the running to be the regarded as the greatest of all time.

Speaking after winning her third WNBA title according to Japan Times, Wilson said she was blessed to be this successful in her career so far.

“We understood the assignment and what was in front of us. All we had to do was believe in one another, and you see that. We’re grateful. We’re blessed. I wouldn’t do it with any other group” Wilson said.
