Team Manager of the Ghana Men’s Hockey Team, Lebene Adjoyi , says the players would be thrilled to meet the Minister of Youth and Sports before departing for Egypt to compete in the 12th Men’s and 9th Women’s Hockey Africa Cup of Nations that is scheduled to run from October 11 to October 18, 2025.
Despite enduring persistent financial challenges as one of the lesser funded sports disciplines in the country, the Ghanaian teams remain resolute as they gear up to face Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Zambia, and host nation Egypt in Ismailia.
The tournament will determine Africa’s representatives at the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, to be staged in Amstelveen, Netherlands and Wavre, Belgium from July 14 to July 30, 2026.
Currently ranked second in Africa in women’s hockey and third in the men’s category, Ghana’s consistent presence among the continent’s elite has sparked optimism that this year’s campaign could finally see both teams lift continental silverware and secure World Cup qualification.

South Africa are the defending African champions in the men’s category with Egypt and Nigeria finishing second and third respectively at the previous edition that was held in Accra, Ghana.
