Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has stated that the need for money to run the club led to the shocking sale of striker Albert Amoah.
23 year old Amoah’s transfer from Kotoko to Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi was officially confirmed on Friday, October 24 immediately after Kotoko suffered a humiliating loss to Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca.
Kotoko lost 5-1 to Wydad in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie and 6-1 on aggregate to crash out of the continental championship. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
However, the Porcupine Warriors announced that Amoah’s transfer had been agreed before the Wydad game to the disappointment of many but Sarfo Duku believes Kotoko needs money and the deal had to be done.
“The agreement [to sell Albert Amoah] was reached after the match [against Wydad].

“We had wanted to extend the conversation; unfortunately, the Libyan Federation had to close their registration yesterday so we had to consider the interest of the player.”

“Kotoko needs money to run the club. Some may disagree with us but if you are into football in Ghana at this stage, you will agree with us” Sarfo Duku said to LUV FM.

Kotoko take on big rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on November 9 in the Ghana Premier League.
