President John Mahama has inaugurated an 11-member inter-ministerial committee tasked with overseeing Ghana’s preparations and participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The committee will be chaired by Deputy Chief of Staff, Stan Xoese Dogbe, with Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa serving as his deputy.

Also serving on the committee are:
– Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams
– Youth Development Minister, George Opare
– Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister, Yusif Jajah
– Deputy Finance Minister, Ampem Nyarkoh
– GFA President, Kurt Okraku

Other members include the Deputy National Security Coordinator, Elizabeth Yankah, Ghana football legend Abedi Pele, and the Chief Director at the Sports Ministry, Wilhelmina Asamoah. An additional representative from the private sector will also be appointed.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, November 26, Sports Minister Kofi Adams explained that the Cabinet, at its recent meeting, approved the establishment of this committee to coordinate all activities related to Ghana’s World Cup campaign.

He emphasised the importance of ensuring seamless collaboration across all departments, saying:

“It is necessary to ensure proper coordination between the technical and all other components so that we do not work in silos.”

The government has already allocated GH₵150 million towards Ghana’s participation in the 2026 World Cup.
