The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) has completed disciplinary proceedings against three license-holders following their involvement in an unauthorized boxing event in Lagos, Nigeria on 1 October 2025.
The individuals involved are:
- Elvis Ahorgah (boxer)
- Daniel Ayiquaye (trainer)
- Daniel Donkor (matchmaker)
According to the GBIMC, Ahorgah renounced his licenced from the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and took part in the Nigerian event under the jurisdiction of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) without any formal clearance from the GBA. His trainer Ayiquaye and matchmaker Donkor – both GBA-licenced – supported the bout despite lacking official GBA authorization.
When asked to appear for the hearings, Ahorgah failed to attend. The GBIMC judged this conduct to be “unpatriotic and in violation of GBA Rules and the Ethical Code of Conduct”. As a result:
- Ahorgah’s license has been withdrawn, he has been indefinitely suspended from professional boxing in Ghana, and fined GH¢5,000.
- Ayiquaye admitted error in judgement and has been suspended for 2 months and fined GH¢1,000.
- Donkor is suspended for 3 months and fined GH¢1,000. The GBIMC states that the fines must be paid within two months; failure to pay will extend the suspensions.
