British boxing star Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly for the first time since surviving a car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.
The former two-time heavyweight champion was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck on a major expressway near Lagos. Two members of his inner circle, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, were killed in the accident.
Joshua, 36, was taken to hospital following the crash and discharged last Wednesday before returning to the UK over the weekend. The funerals of Ghami and Ayodele were held at a London mosque on Sunday.

Earlier that day, Joshua shared two images on Instagram, including one showing him seated with his mother and the families of the victims. One of the women pictured was holding a photograph of Ghami. The post was captioned: “My Brother’s Keeper.”

The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, has been charged at the Sagamu Magistrates’ Court with offences including causing death by dangerous driving. He was granted bail of five million naira (£2,578), with the case adjourned until January 20.
Joshua, who has family roots in Sagamu, Ogun State, was travelling to visit relatives for New Year celebrations at the time of the collision. He had been in Nigeria following his victory over Jake Paul on December 19.
