The Ghana Football Association has relieved Otto Addo of his duties as head coach of the senior men’s national team with immediate effect, following a run of disappointing results by the Ghana.

The decision follows a series of underwhelming performances, including recent friendly defeats to Austria and Germany, which raised concerns about the team’s form and preparedness ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

In a brief statement announcing the decision, the GFA expressed appreciation to Addo for his service and contribution to Ghanaian football.

“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the statement said.

Addo, who previously led the Black Stars through key international assignments, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, departs at a crucial time as the team intensifies preparations for the upcoming tournament.

His exit signals a shift in technical direction as the Association looks to address performance concerns and restore confidence within the squad.

Ghana faces a tough challenge in Group L of the World Cup, where they are set to take on England, Panama, and Croatia.

Black stars next step

The GFA says it will, in due course, communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars, including the appointment of a new head coach, as preparations intensify for the competition.

The decision to part ways with Addo underscores the urgency within Ghana’s football administration to reverse the team’s recent struggles and position the Black Stars for a stronger showing in upcoming international competitions.
