Otto Addo has openly criticized his players’ mentality and body language following their heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria, admitting he was disappointed with how the team reacted during difficult moments of the game.
Speaking ahead of Ghana’s upcoming friendly against Germany, Addo pointed to a lack of resilience, particularly after going behind, as a major concern.
“I Didn’t Like the Body Language”
While acknowledging that the scoreline may not fully reflect the flow of the game, Addo stressed that his biggest issue was not just the result ; but the reaction of his players.

“What I didn’t like is our body language, our mentality afterwards,” he said.
“2-0 is not a loss. We can still come back, and this is what I didn’t see,” Addo added.
Collapse After Setbacks
According to the coach, the team failed to show leadership and composure when the pressure intensified, especially after conceding multiple goals.
He emphasized the need for experienced players to step up in such moments and guide the younger members of the squad.
“This is where we need our leaders to push the boys and not to fall apart.”
Even after pulling a goal back to make it 3-1, Ghana were unable to build momentum, exposing deeper issues in mentality and structure.
Defensive Concerns Ahead of Germany
Beyond the psychological aspect, Addo also highlighted tactical weaknesses — particularly in defensive transitions.
“We have to be quicker in defensive transitions… when we’re not organised, we have big problems.”
This concern becomes even more significant ahead of the Germany clash, given the Europeans’ ability to punish teams on the break.

Urgent Response Needed
For Addo, the path forward is clear: improve mentality, sharpen defensive organisation, and show greater fight when faced with adversity.
With a high-profile test against Germany looming, the Black Stars have an immediate opportunity to respond not just in scoreline, but in attitude.
