President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), John Ansah, says efforts were made to persuade Hohoe United to reverse their decision to withdraw from the Ghana Premier League, but the club had already settled on exiting the competition.
Hohoe United officially pulled out of the 2025/26 season in April 2026, citing unfair treatment, poor officiating, and a three match home ban imposed by the Ghana Football Association.
The sanction followed disciplinary action after their controversial fixture against Vision FC, alongside a financial penalty.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Mr Ansah explained that both GHALCA and football authorities engaged the club in attempts to resolve the impasse, but the decision had already been finalised internally.

“We did our best. Personally, I called almost everybody that matters in that team. I am aware the General Secretary and the FA President did the same,” he said.
“They had already concluded with their board that they were withdrawing from the league. We had little power to force them to stay on board. Everything we did to get them back on board did not work out.”

The development has sparked renewed debate about officiating standards, disciplinary processes, and governance within the Ghana Premier League, with stakeholders calling for reforms to strengthen trust in the system.
Hohoe United’s exit adds to growing concerns about club sustainability and the broader credibility of the domestic league.
