After nine weeks without a win, Ghana Airports Company Limited secured their first victory of the season in the UG Corporate Football League, edging Zenith Bank FC 1-0 in a tightly contested clash at the University of Ghana Stadium on Friday, April 24.
Ernest Atta-Awuah proved the difference, striking in the 40th minute to seal a long-awaited breakthrough and hand Airports a result that could shift momentum in their campaign.
While most fixtures on the night were defined by stalemates, Airports and Wilmar stood out as the only sides to claim wins.
Wilmar delivered the most dramatic moment of the round. With their game against Telecel Ghana heading for a draw, Roland A. Mensah stepped up in the dying seconds to curl in a decisive free-kick, sealing a stunning 1-0 win. The result moves Wilmar to within one point of the top spot in Group B.
Elsewhere, the Forestry Commission and the National Petroleum Authority played out a goalless but competitive draw, with both sides creating chances but lacking the finishing touch.
Group B largely saw teams cancel each other out. The National Communications Authority held Union Ghana to a 0-0 draw despite being reduced to 10 men following Jonathan Siaw’s dismissal, showing defensive discipline to earn a valuable point.
BOST Energies, meanwhile, were awarded maximum points after the Lebanese Sports Community failed to honour their fixture, keeping their push on track as the competition enters a decisive phase.
