Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, is set to appoint a new head coach by Monday, April 13.
Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams confirmed the timeline, as discussions intensify ahead of the official announcement. In the lead-up, former GFA presidential aspirant Amanda Clinton has urged authorities to commit more financial resources if the country hopes to attract elite managerial talent.
High-profile names such as Carlos Queiroz, who previously managed Manchester United and Real Madrid, and Fernando Santos, who led Portugal to the UEFA Euro 2016 title, are reportedly on the shortlist.
In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Clinton stressed that offering competitive salaries is key to securing the calibre of coach Ghana needs.
“We shouldn’t be cheap. We should just pay as much as we can.”

“Bring the Black Stars back because its got a formidable name, a formidable past. If he- a coach- is good it just means that he has other places to go to…so we definitely have to pay more.”

“What is money when football is the heart of the country and by winning more we get more endorsements, we get more partnerships” Amanda Clinton said.
