Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has been subjected to another racist incident during the 2025–26 season, this time in Manchester City’s 3-3 draw with Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The latest abuse adds to a troubling pattern involving the Ghana international, who was also targeted earlier in the season at Anfield while playing for AFC Bournemouth in a league fixture against Liverpool FC. Earlier this year, he was racially abused online. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Following the Everton match, police in England arrested a 71-year-old man from Nottinghamshire, believed to be an Everton supporter. He was picked up on “suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence” after reports from fans and stewards that racist remarks had been directed at the player.

Both Everton and Manchester City have since condemned the incident and say they are cooperating with authorities as investigations continue.

Semenyo’s teammate, Marc Guéhi, was also subjected to racist abuse online after conceding possession to Thierno Barry, which led to an Everton goal.

“We welcome the swift action taken by Everton and the police to identify the individual responsible. We are also incredibly disappointed to hear that Marc Guéhi was subject to a series of vile racist social media posts last night” a section of Man City’s statement read.
