The brother of Union Berlin defender Derrick Arthur Kohn, Michel Kohn, has debunked the claims widely reported that issues connected to nationality switch led to Derrick’s omission from the Black Stars 2026 World Cup squad. (Scroll down to view post)
German-born Kohn wasn’t included in the 28 man squad by Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz that is set to face Wales in a pre-World Cup friendly on June 2.
The final 26 man squad that will compete in next month’s World Cup will be announced on June 1. Kohn’s omission comes after he featured in Ghana’s friendly tie against Germany that ended in a 2-0 loss.
Veteran left full backs Baba Rahman and Gideon Mensah were picked at the expense of Kohn and a widely reported reason behind his omission was down to an incomplete switch from Germany to Ghana.

However, in a post on social media, Derrick’s brother, Michel dispelled such notions by stating that,

“JUST TO CLEAR UP THE RUMOURS: Derrick’s nationality switch is completed! The reasons for his exclusion can only be explained by the Ghana Football Association and Mr. Carlos Queiroz.”

27 year old Derrick Kohn played 29 German Bundesliga games in the 2025-2026 campaign registering a goal and two assists.
