Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has confirmed that Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, will continue to receive an appearance fee of $100,000 per player ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on TV3, Adams explained that the figure has remained unchanged for several years despite fluctuations in previous tournament cycles.
He noted that the payment structure has evolved over time, with historical fees ranging from around $50,000 to as high as $120,000 before eventually settling at the current benchmark.
“It varies. Since 2006, I think they were given, was it 50 or 80 thousand dollars for appearance. It has then, it went up to 120 at a point and it came back to 100. It has been pegged at that 100 for quite some time. So this year? Yeah, it’s the same thing. We haven’t changed it,” he said.
The minister stressed that there are currently no plans to increase the figure, arguing that the strength of the Ghanaian cedi should not automatically trigger a rise in dollar-denominated payments.

He further defended the decision by stating that currency fluctuations alone should not determine adjustments to the agreed structure, insisting that the current arrangement remains fair and consistent.
With the World Cup just days away, the confirmation clarifies one of the key financial aspects of player motivation and preparation within the national team setup.
The Black Stars are expected to finalize their build-up preparations as attention shifts fully to the tournament.
