Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team finished fourth in Heat 3 with a time of 38.19 seconds at the World Relays in Botswana, missing out on a place in the final.

The team ran in a highly competitive heat featuring South Africa, Nigeria, and Great Britain, widely regarded as one of the toughest line-ups of the competition. Ghana lined up in the order Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Amoah, and Edwin Gadayi, but could not secure a top-three finish to advance automatically.

The result means Ghana will not compete in the final on Sunday, May 3, 2026.

However, the team still has a pathway forward as they remain in contention for qualification to the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing through the broader relay ranking system. Ghana will get another chance on Sunday to book qualification through the repechage rounds. If they fail to progress at that stage, their hopes of reaching future global competitions will hinge on their position in the world rankings over the qualification period.

Ghana will now turn its attention to its next opportunity to improve its standing and keep its championship hopes alive.
