Keta Football Club has raised concerns over fairness, due process, and integrity in Volta Region football after a protest filed against it following its 3-2 win over Yingor FC in the Middle League.

In a statement on Wednesday, May 27, the club said it is disappointed that the protest is being considered. It noted that the issue stems from the 2023/2024 season, a competition Yingor FC did not take part in.

“It is therefore difficult to understand the legal, procedural, or sporting basis upon which Yingor FC can properly rely on such a matter against KetaFC in the current Middle League,” the statement said.

The club questioned why the case was allowed to proceed, arguing it lacks a clear procedural basis. It also raised concerns about possible administrative influence within regional football, suggesting bias and selective justice.

“We strongly caution against the use of privileged positions, closeness to power, financial influence, or sponsorship arrangements to interfere with the fair administration of Volta football. Sponsorship of a Middle League must never be interpreted as a guarantee of qualification to the final, promotion to Division One, or entitlement to preferential treatment,” the statement added.

Keta FC maintained that its win over Yingor FC in the Middle League was fair and should stand. It warned that overturning results through external influence would undermine the credibility of the competition.

“If such conduct is tolerated, every club may be encouraged to seek influence outside the pitch, and that would destroy the credibility of Volta football. The Zone will not accept discrimination against KetaFC or any attempt to sacrifice conscience, fairness, and sporting integrity for convenience. We call on the VRFA to act strictly by its own rules, without fear, favour, intimidation, or selective justice.”

The club is urging the Volta Regional Football Association to apply its rules consistently and ensure decisions are free from bias.
