Cape Verde’s upcoming game against Uruguay on Sunday, June 21 will have a special guest in attendance as the African nation seek to build on their brilliant goalless draw with Spain. (Scroll down to watch video)

The Blue Sharks’ starting goalkeeper Vozinha’s mother has been granted an American visa after special intervention from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the request of the leader of the Democrats in the United States of America parliament Hakeem Jeffries.

Cape Verde citizens have $15,000 bonds tied to visa applications making it difficult for people from the island to meet the requirements but that was suspended just a month before the start of the World Cup giving citizens very little time to apply.

However, through the intervention of Jeffries, such requirements were waived leading to Jeffries to state,

“I thank Secretary Rubio, U.S. State Department officials, the government of Cabo Verde and FIFA for working together to make this possible.”

“For me, this is very important because all my family always supports me in everything and to have her here, it’s something special. I wish I could bring more…but I think sometimes it’s difficult” Vozinha said.
