Black stars head coach Carlos Queiroz says he has full confidence in his players ahead of the Black Stars’ opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Panama on June 17.

The Group L encounter will mark the first-ever senior international meeting between Ghana and Panama, with both nations seeking a positive start in a group that also features European heavyweights England and Croatia.

A strong result at BMO Field in Toronto could prove crucial in the race for a place in the knockout stages.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Queiroz stressed that football offers no guarantees and that success ultimately depends on what players deliver on the pitch.

“The final outcome of football is always a mystery. We never know because there is no formula that gives you success in football,” Queiroz said.

“It is what you have to do on the day and how committed you are during the game.”

The experienced Portuguese tactician, who has managed at multiple World Cups, reiterated his belief that players are the most important factor in determining results.

“After all these years, to be honest with you, I have a strong belief that this is a game of players.”

“The moment we start the game, I count on my players and they are ready for that.”

Ghana enter the tournament with hopes of making a deep run after an encouraging build-up, but Queiroz knows his side must first overcome a determined Panama team eager to make its own mark on the global stage.

The Black Stars face Panama on June 17 before taking on England and Croatia in what is widely regarded as one of the toughest groups at the tournament.
