Spain head coach Luis De La Fuente has stated that winger Lamine Yamal won’t play the full duration of the European nation’s game against Cape Verde.
Spain take on the African nation on Monday, June 15 at 16:00 GMT in their opening game at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, the 2010 World Champions head into the game with serious questions over the fitness of Yamal and fellow winger Nico Williams.
Speaking at a pre-game presser, De La Fuente shared that news regarding the pair’s fitness was positive but not to the extent of having him play out the entire game.
“The good news is that Lamine is in perfect condition. He’s arrived at this point in the state in which we wanted him to be. He’s fine, just like Nico [Williams] and Victor [Muñoz]. They’re all available.”

“The doctors say Lamine can play tomorrow without any issues…Not to play 90 minutes, but to play some minutes, yes… The process [with Williams] is similar” De La Fuente said.
