Tunisia have appointed Herve Renard as head coach after surprisignly sacking Sabri Lamouchi in the wake of the Carthage Eagles’ 5-1 loss to Sweden at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Lamouchi’s tenure, which commenced in January, ended after the opening game of the World Cup and was set to be replaced with former Tunisia head coach Mondher Kebaier.

There was pressure on Lamouchi heading into the World Cup after losing 5-0 to Belgium and conceding five goals for the second goal in a row led to Lamouchi’s dismissal.

Renard’s appointment comes ahead of Tunisia’s next game which takes place on Sunday, June 21 against Japan. He is expected to take charge of the team’s training later on Tuesday, June 16.

Former Zambia and Cote D’Ivoire head coach Renard has served as head coach at the 2018 World Cup with Morocco and the 2022 World Cup with Saudi Arabia where the Asian nation recorded a shock win over Argentina.

However, he missed out on qualifying to the next round on both occasions and gets a third try following his appointment.
