Ghana has climbed eight places in the FIFA live rankings, moving from 73rd to 65th after their victory over Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars opened their Group L campaign with a 1-0 win over Panama in Toronto on June 17, with Caleb Yirenkyi scoring the winner in stoppage time.

Ghana entered the tournament ranked 73rd in the world, while Panama was 34th. The victory over a higher-ranked opponent earned the Black Stars a significant boost in ranking points, lifting them to 65th in FIFA’s live standings.

Ghana is competing in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. Carlos Queiroz’s side has three points from their opening match and will next face England on Tuesday, June 23, as the Black Stars push for a place in the Round of 32.

The 2026 World Cup is the first to feature 48 teams. The top two teams in each of the 12 groups, along with the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to the knockout stage.
