American sprinter Ja’Kobe Tharp has set a new record in the Men’s 110 Metre Hurdles event by running a time of 12.75 seconds. (Scroll down to watch video)
American Aries Merritt held the previous record after running a time of 12.80 seconds in 2012 but that record now belongs to 20 year old University of Auburn athlete Tharp.
Tharp set the record while winning the semifinals event of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Tharp jumped in ecstasy after finding out the time he run and indicated that he was pleasantly surprised by how fast he run despite believing he had the talent to do so.
“I was going pretty fast. The last three hurdles were kind of iffy. I was like…I’m coming up kind of fast. I thought maybe 12.97 or 12.98, and match the speed record but to see that…I’m speechless, seriously.”

“It felt fast, but all my races feel fast, to be honest. I knew I had that in my legs but it wasn’t on my bingo card before this meet, not at all.”
