Despite guard De’Aaron Fox making a huge mistake that cost the San Antonio Spurs a crucial win in Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals, Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson has backed the former Sacramento Kings player.
In Spurs’ 107-106 loss to New York Knicks, Fox had the chance to run the clock down with San Antonio holding a 106-105 lead with 14 second left in the game but opted to score with a layup.
However, his attempt was blocked by Knicks forward OG Anunoby who went on to tip in the game winner for the Knicks to establish a 3-1 series lead heading to Game 5 which takes place on Sunday, June 14.
Fox’s decision making was universally slammed but Johnson said in a pre-game presser that he will still entrust the ball with Fox.
“I don’t get into social media. I think I’ve been fired 212 times, and we’ve traded Fox 72 times. People have their opinions. I don’t care.”

“De’Aaron Fox will have the basketball in his hands at the end of the game tomorrow, and I have the utmost confidence he’s going to deliver like he’s done countless times for us” Johnson said.
