A 13 year old has passed away while celebrating Spain’s triumph at the 2026 FIFA World Cup marking the second time the European nation has won the prestigious trophy.
Spain beat 2022 World Champions Argentina 1-0 in the final on the back of a dominant performance that had Luis De La Fuente’s register 12 shots on target while Argentina registered in 120 minutes of play.
However, while celebrating the latest title triumph for Spanish football, a teenager died after the upper part of the Arbol Gordo Fountain in the Spanish town of Ciudad Rodrigo partially collapsed.
The sad incident happened in the wee hours of Monday, July 20 while people celebrated Spain’s win; two people were also injured per the information gathered from Spanish emergency services.
Reacting to the development, a statement from Ciudad Rodrigo’s Town Hall read,

“The entire city feels this loss and accompanies the minor’s friends and family in their grief … What should have been a celebration of the Spanish national team’s World Cup victory has turned into a tragedy.”
