Spanish winger Lamine Yamal turned 19 years old on Monday, July 13 and despite being the biggest star on the Spanish team that is competing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, France defender Ibrahima Konate says he isn’t the only threat from Spain.
He said this in a presser ahead of France’s clash with Spain at the semifinals in the ongoing competition on Tuesday, July 14 at 19:00 GMT.
19 year old Yamal has featured in all six Spanish games at this year’s World Cup and scored once after recovering from a groin injury just before the start of the tournament.
Konate, who will play against Yamal in the Spanish La Liga after joining Real Madrid from Liverpool, highlighted Spain’s overall quality and not just Yamal.

“The Spanish team is an exceptional nation with a lot of individuality but the goal is not to focus on one particular player because it’s the entire team that can hurt; it’s not just about Lamine [Yamal], it’s all of the team” Konate said.

Spain beat France at the semifinals in the 2024 Euros and 2025 UEFA Nations League; at age 19, Yamal is a multiple time La Liga champion and won the 2024 Euros as a 17 year old.
