Senegal’s National Men’s Football Team head coaching role is vacant after Pape Thiaw was dismissed in the wake of the country’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Thiaw, a former Senegal player, led Senegal to qualify to the round of 32 stage but crashed out after losing 3-2 to Belgium despite holding a 2-0 lead as late as the 85th minute.

Following the announcement, 1998 FIFA World Cup winner with France, Patrick Vieira has been heavily tipped to succeed Thiaw as Senegal head coach according to French media outlet L’Equipe.
Vieira, who is of Senegalese descent, had a brilliant playing career and has handled a handful of teams since transitioning into coaching.

He has served as head coach for Crystal Palace in the English Premier League, OGC Nice and Strasbourg in the French Ligue 1, Genoa in the Italian Serie A and New York City in the Major League Soccer.
